MEET OUR CANDIDATES

Vice President Candidate:
Jamie Church - My name is Jamie Church, I am married and have two children. Logan that is in 4th grade and a daughter Kaitlin that will be turning 2 at the end of this month.  When I am not working I enjoy traveling and spending time with family and Friends.  This year I had the opportunity of being on the board as the PTO Parent Representative.  I would love to continue to be on the board and am running for Vice President. I would love to continue to be on the board to continue to show my love for South Arbor.  

Secretary Candidate:
Ashley Jester - Ashley is an engaged member of the PTO and understands the value and significance of partnering with parents to enrich the student experience at South Arbor.  She continues to participate in PTO activities and volunteers her time at South Arbor while also serving in her community and church.  Ashley is committed to fulfilling the needs and goals of the PTO, expanding opportunities for next year, and supporting the families of South Arbor in the year ahead.

Parent Representative Candidates:
Becky Massey - Hello, My name is Becky. My son Wesley Robertsen is in Mrs. Jansen's Kindergarten class. We moved to Michigan from Tennessee three years ago to make Ypsilanti home. I am passionate about South Arbor because I believe in this school. The statistics speak for themselves when it comes to South Arbor. I started researching schools when Wesley was 3 years old and I set my heart on this amazing school. I love being a part of something wonderful. ​

Suzanne Gadepalli - Suzanne is a health policy analyst turned stay at home mom. She currently has three children (soon to be four!) attending South Arbor from seventh to second grade.


She is a seasoned party planner, homework helper, and science coach.  As your PTO parent representative, she will bridge the gap of communication between teachers and parents and to encourage parent involvement for all the upcoming PTO events.

Nominations for the 2019-2020 school year are here!  Start thinking of people that you would like to nominate for the PTO Board.  You can nominate yourself or anyone else.

P
ositions up for election are: Vice President, Secretary, and Parent Representative.
This year the Vice President and Secretary will be elected for a 2 year term and the Parent Rep will be elected to a 1 year term. 
  • Written nominations deadline is Wednesday, May 1st
  • Nominees will be contacted and published by Monday, 6th
  • Voting will take place Thursday, May 16th  at the final general membership meeting of the year

**Candidates may be nominated all the way up until the meeting on Thursday May 16th, however the nominee must be present to accept the nomination!

President
The President will direct the affairs of the PTO in cooperation with the other officers of the PTO Board. The President shall schedule monthly PTO meetings, create the monthly PTO agenda in conjunction with the Secretary, facilitate monthly PTO meetings and act on behalf of the PTO in urgent matters arising between meetings. The President shall preside over all meetings of the PTO and serve as the primary contact for the Principal while representing the PTO at meetings outside of the organization. The President shall be familiar with all the by-laws and oversee compliance with them. The President shall coordinate the work of all PTO Board officers and Committees so that the purpose of the organization is served. The President will have check writing and withdrawal authority for the PTO bank account and will work in conjunction with the Vice President to make sure funds are disbursed in an accurate and timely manner. (Effort: year-round commitment, time varies depending upon roles but typically 3-5 hrs. per week and attending a board meeting and a PTO meeting approximately six times a year)

Vice-President
The Vice-President should act as an aide to the President; make a thorough study of the President’s duties and responsibilities, and be prepared to perform the duties of the President in the absence or inability of that officer to serve. The Vice President should help assist all Board members, and the principal in all endeavors regarding the PTO and be very familiar with the work of the organization. The Vice-President currently has the primary responsibility for writing checks and making financial disbursements in accordance with the approved budget, as authorized by the PTO and its Board.  The Vice President should have the flexibility of schedule to be able to be present at the school periodically during school hours, to deliver disbursements and maintain the secondary files of all disbursements at the school.  The Vice-President coordinates and schedules child-care supervision for all PTO meetings and maintains attendance sheets and a file of attendees. Ideally the Vice President is willing to serve as President in the future.  (Effort: year-round commitment, time varies depending upon roles but typically 3-5 hrs. per week, and attending a board meeting and a PTO meeting approximately six times a year)

Treasurer
The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures. The Treasurer shall maintain present a financial statement at every PTO meeting and at other times when requested by the PTO Board or Executive Committee, and shall make a full report at the Annual End-Of-Year Meeting. The Treasurer shall also prepare a proposed budget near the end of the fiscal year, to be modified by the Board and voted on by the membership. The Treasurer must keep a book of records, which will be audited following the May elections and prior to the assumption of duties by the incoming PTO Board officers. (Effort: year-round commitment, typically 3-5 hrs. per week and attending a board meeting and a PTO meeting approximately six times a year)

Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for keeping accurate records of all of the proceedings of the PTO, taking and recording minutes and providing copies of the minutes to each Board Member within one (1) week following a PTO meeting, preparing the agenda of PTO meetings in conjunction with the President (for general meetings), preparing sign-in sheets for each meeting making sure everyone is a member for voting purposes, updating the PTO website with agendas, minutes, front page blog of events, etc., handles correspondences, keeping the contact lists in the South Arbor PTO gmail accounts up-to-date for all PTO email addresses, providing PTO updates to the school Herald, and sending notices of meetings to the officers and members of the PTO. The secretary is also responsible for keeping a current copy of the bylaws, rules, procedures, a current membership list and any other necessary supplies and for bringing them to all meetings. Parent Representative
The Parent Representative must be a fair and impartial member of the PTO and NOT a paid faculty member of South Arbor Academy who subscribes to the objectives and basic policies of the PTO and its bylaws and is present at all PTO meetings to represent the voice of the parents and PTO Board. The Parent Representative may need to call and oversee meetings among PTO members to better serve the PTO organization as a whole, and shall act as the publicity coordinator by maintaining the on-going process of increasing awareness of the PTO and membership growth by attending various school events throughout the year.  (Effort: year-round commitment, time varies depending upon roles but typically 1-2 hrs. per week and attending a board meeting and a PTO meeting approximately six times a year)

Faculty Representatives
There are two representatives that are not elected; they are appointed by Mrs. Bondy.
