The theme for this year's Green Team is to Maintain and Grow. We were so excited to be awarded the Michigan Green School certificate with an Emerald distinction last year! This year, we plan to maintain the many projects put into motion and grow some new ones as well. Click here to see the most recent update the Green Team made to the PTO.
If you or your child would like to be involved with these fun and meaningful projects, please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mrs. Morad (email@example.com).
Have you been wondering what's going on in the way back of the schoolyard? It's a Native Meadow Project and it's funded by a grant that the Green Team received recently! Get the full scoop on the South Arbor Goes Green blog.
The Green Team has been raising awareness about our school's paper usage. Check out details about the culminating event, which took place during this morning's assembly. It's *pear-y* interesting!
The Green Team has something fun to announce. It's official: South Arbor Charter Academy has been named a Michigan Green School for the 2012 - 2013 school year!
And not only that, because we completed more than 15 checkpoints, we were awarded the Emerald Distinction! For a list of the checkpoints that we submitted, and links to more details and pictures, visit the Checkpoints Update page here.
For pictures, updates, and even a Broadway-inspired slideshow, check out this latest post from the blog!
This week, the Green Team's bulletin board asks the community to list some resources that are considered renewable and some resources that are considered nonrenewable. See our blog post here for more details!
Don't be shy! Visit the Green Team's interactive bulletin board. It is in the hall near the gym, opposite the hero displays.
This week asks you to jot down your ideas about "What does RENEWABLE mean?"
No judgment. Only awareness. Stay tuned for more!
South Arbor's middle school, intermediate, and a handful of primary students welcomed some extraordinary guests last week. Animal Magic is a collection of exotic animals that travels all over the country and increases wonder and exposure to the natural world. We oo'ed and ahh'ed at the amazing creatures we saw! We learned unbelievable facts and, at times, got a taste of our own fear. Click here for pictures and amazing details!
Guess how many cell phones the Green Team collected last week during the Cell Phone Recycle Event. 20? 50? 80? Keep guessing....
Check here for the results and pictures of this fun and worthwhile event: http://southarborgoesgreen.blogspot.com/2013/01/and-what-event-it-was.html
Did you upgrade your cell phone this holiday season? Are you looking to unload your old one? The Green Team has a solution for you. We are holding a Cell Phone Recycle Event onThursday, January 17 and Friday January 18 during morning and afternoon traffic. You don't even have to leave your vehicle to recycle your cell phone. Adults and students from the Green Team will be circulating the lanes of cars during drop-off and pick-up times. Just look for volunteers holding the wicker baskets.
One of South Arbor's parents works for ReCellular, and is partnering with The Green Team to donate all of our old tele-com gear to Cell Phones For Soldiers, a reputable charity that trades them for calling cards for our overseas soldiers to call home. And, not to worry, all sensitive data will be removed.
Sounds like a Win-Win-Win situation to me!
So, mark your calendars and bring in your old cell phone gear.
January 17 and 18!
